Today at ProHealth I did a crossfit workout using the balance ball, chin up bar, free weights, jump rope. As a warm up I did Ashtanga Salutations, standing poses, final 3 poses and corpse for 6 breaths. Finished workout with some time in the steam room.

Kripalu Vigorous Vinyasa Flow in warm room

Kripalu style Vigorous Vinyasa Flow practice today for 90 minutes.  (temp set at 78 Deg F)

When students show up  for morning practice saying they have stiff body, what questions does the teacher ask?
 Did you do the following prior to class?

1.  Early morning shower in warm water?
2.  Stomach Kriyas (churn abs)?
3.  Drink cup(s) of warm water?
4.   A few Sun Salutations to remove the fuzz (fatty tissue) in shoulder and back muscles?
5.  Lie on back and do some exercises to warm up the spine?
6.  Keep empty (no solid food) stomach until after yoga practice?

Usually, a stiff body person awakens and drives to the studio for a practice, maybe they brush the teeth and drink some coffee.  Some even eat breakfast?

Sulfur tablets and green veggies help keep bendy body.  And a yoga practice holding each asana pose for at least 3-5 minutes does wonders, inhaling thru nose and exhaling thru open mouth.

Astanga Yoga today

Our class did first day of Ashtanga:  stomach kriyas, warm up the spine exercises on the back, and then 10 salutations SS-A, final three seated poses, corpse for 10 minutes..  I gave instructions and demo the first SS-A then watched the class do nine more at each person's individual pace, taking rest and/or mods as needed.

Next class we will add 10 or less SS-B.

After class for self practice I did 2nd day which  included same adding 10 SS-B after doing 10 SS-A, final three poses, then corpse.

Beautiful Sivananda Style class today

Fall is here, weather cooler and students returning to yoga practice at Moss Point Community Center.  Fantastic views of the waterfront from second floor of the Riverfront Community Center, recently landscaped and locals fishing or throwing out nets into the water, boats docking and birds returning after the rain and wind.  River rose over docks and is now receding.

Fall is here with cool mornings and the gentler all levels basic Sivananda Yoga.

Power Yoga

Using DVD today personal practice was ninety minutes of Power Yoga.  Quite different from Ashtanga and Sivananda.
